This post is applicable to Lightroom Classic.

ETAs for tethered support for specific cameras are not available.

Tethered Capture is a feature of Lightroom Classic that allows the direct connection of your camera to the Lightroom desktop environment. Images are imported into your Lightroom catalog as they are captured via the connected camera.

New camera support for reading the raw files is generally added quickly after a camera is released by its manufacturer.  New camera support can be verified here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

Tethered support for a particular camera model normally follows a version or two after the raw file support. Adobe relies on the manufacturer’s (Nikon & Canon) SDK (Software Development Kit) to facilitate the tethering of your camera to Lightroom. The timing of the release of a manufacturer’s support via their SDK greatly affects the time to release for tethered support. In addition, Adobe goes through a rigorous process of integrating the functionality of the SDK and tests tethering before support is announced.

To see if your camera is supported for tethering on your version of Lightroom, refer to this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

If your camera is listed, but your Lightroom version is too old, you may need to update or upgrade to enable tethering.

If your camera is not listed, and your camera’s raw file isn't supported, you would need to check with the camera’s manufacturer to see if they support tethering via their SDK.

Note: Not all camera manufacturers or models will necessarily receive tether support.

Hello Heroes!
The news of the introduction tethering for SONY alpha cameras made me extremely happy. What a disappointment it was when I connected my not such old A7R mark IIIa 😞
I know the equipment is not the newest but sill in shape and many photographers still use them.

Is there a chance for support older cameras in the future?

Hello Adobe Team,

Lightroom have improved so much in the recent years that I am considering switching to Lightroom for studio tethering.

However, Lightroom tethering must run on rosetta which makes Lightroom run very slow, and after capturing 50 plus photos, the speed becomes worst.

I had to optimise catalog and relaunch everytime, which slows production.

I think solving this issue is key for user migration from capture one. Lots of people have been talking about this on reddit.

Please and thankyou.

Do you have any information on the Nikon ZF's connected mode in direct shooting mode in Lightroom? All the others in the Z series work but not the ZF? Thank you for your information

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Unfortunately Adobe doesn't say anything about the release date of new features. So you have to patient and wait until Adobe implement the tether support.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 9 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Does anyone know if/when tethered support is going to be added for the Canon R6 II?

I mostly work with 2 x Canon R6 II bodies and I have to shoot tethered quite often, but I'm having to travel with my old Canon 5D Mark IV in my bag too just for these tethered occasions seeing as the R6 II isn't supported yet.

This camera was released in November 2022, so I feel like tethered support is long overdue at this point.

Any updates would be greatly appreciated!

Since Sony's improved camera control SDK April 2023, does Adobe have a roadmap for adding Sony tethering to Lightroom Classic?

There are third party plugins for this and Capture One manages it. If the SDK is free to use, what is stopping Adobe from supporting Sony as they support Nikon and Canon tethering?

When will the R6 MII be supported for tethering in LRC?  Please allow tethering support for the Canon R6 MII.

Thanks

  1. Hi, i would like to know if it's possible to take pictures in "connected mode" with a Canon R6 Mk2 on lightroom ?  I use a Mac book pro (monterrey) with last version of lightroom and i have the last upgrade on my camera. I tried to connect my camera but it doesn't work, lightroom doesn't recognize my camera !
