Part of my image is hidden when in R/cropping mode

Hi guys,

Why is this happening - image chopped off on the right hand side, and how do I get things back to normal? Is it because the angle was changed?

Please see screenshot below.

Thanks a lot

Forgive me for disagreeing Joe.

I still think it should be the same as a horizontal crop where you see the entire un-cropped image before deciding on the next step.No difference.  And, consequently, what we have now is a design flaw where you have to make decisions regarding composition with part of the image concealed. I would have to totally undo what I have to see the other end of the image with no way of getting back to the same exact crop, unless I do a duplicate first.

But that's just me.

Sorry, but the horizontal crop works the same as the vertical crop.  If you select a horizontal crop that only selects a small portion of the image in the lower left corner, you will see the same thing with a portion of the upper right corner off the viewer window.

Not true.  You can see the right side of the image by clicking and dragging from inside the crop to move the image to the left.  Control z with put you back to the exact same crop.

Also, if you actually want a vertical crop then try the following. Make the crop a bit smaller by dragging one of the corners inward and then move the image to the left by dragging (just click in the middle of the crop and drag the image.

Thank you Jay and Joe.

I know all these things; but what seems like a software design flaw to me is the inability to see the entire frame, angled or not. To me, it's a lack of design refinement.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond.

OK, now I understand your question.

Not a design flaw; that is the way Lightroom works.  The proposed crop appears in the center of the viewing window and the image moves and/or rotates under that crop.  If you crop off to one side the other side of the image will move outside the viewing window.  If you want to see that part of the image, simply drag the image from inside the crop to the left.

This is by design such that the crop, namely the part of the image you want to keep, is kept in the center.  If you move and/or rotate the image, the crop does not rotate, thus giving you a real time view of how it will appear before you click done.

It looks like 2 things going on.

Yes, the fact that you are cropping at an angle causes the crop to stop when the corners of the crop reach the edges of the image.

You are also cropping a landscape mode image into a portrait crop.

Hit the x key to change the crop back to landscape.  Change the angle to 0.00.
