Question

Photo not loading correctly when imported into Lightroom Classic

I have imported a number of photos from the Hard Drive of my Mac. When I view the photo before import - it correctly paints up (IMG_1816) But after import - in both the library and the develop module, half of the photo has purple "information" that I cannot clear (IMG_1816). I have tried to save the photo with 1:1 previews or standard sized previews and it makes no difference. All other photos in the folder (or from the SD card) have loaded correctly. I can see the photo correclty in Mac previews or in NX Studio.

Are these photos RAW images?

If so, then the previews in MAC Finder are of the embedded JPEG in the RAW file.

Hello GoldingD, Yes the files are all RAW. Odd that out of 1890 files - all RAW, only one is purple.

This is a corrupt file. File corruption is always caused by failing hardware. You need to identify the failing component ASAP before it spreads.

It can be bad RAM or a failing drive - but the most common cause is saving directly to an external drive with worn cables/connectors. A slight bump can be enough. Other possibilities are memory card or card reader.

Other applications likely just show the embedded jpeg preview, which is a very small part of the file that can be fine while the main data are corrupted.

Either this is caused by a bad GPU driver or bad GPU or some other hardware malfunction.

In LrC, turn off the GPU and see if the problem goes away. Preferences->Performance->Use Graphics Processor is set to off.

What is the exact make and model of your GPU?

Building on dj_paige's reply, there have been recent problems reported with Mac OS and particular graphics hardware.  Your problem image looks more similar to typical corruption caused by hardware problems than that Mac OS problem. But before jumping to any conclusions, in addition to disabling the graphics processor, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.
