Question

Photos but not videos are downloaded on import from SD card

In the past, when I imported from an SD card, videos along with photos were installed on my Windows PC.  Not now, however.  I can view the videos in my camera but I cannot seem to import them - LR just seems not to find them.

Two questions:

  • What is the camera brand and model?
  • When Lightroom Classic lists the card contents in the expanded Import dialog box, how is the card listed on the left side? As one volume, or multiple volumes? If it's more than one, what source is selected by default for import?

For example, when I put my card in, Lightroom Classic lists it twice, as shown below. The default highlighted source (DCIM) is the place from which Lightroom Classic will import, but I can tell you right now that videos are not going to come in as shown. But if I change the selection a certain way, they will. So my questions come from wondering if you see the same default selection, in case the same solution applies.

Just an update on this.  I did find the videos in question listed under "private" and in LR I was able to download them - or so I thought initially.  But when I looked at the destination folder there was only another folder inside with no actual video.   At this point, I gave up on LR for this purpose and was able to download the two MP4 files using Corel's Video Studio.  That solves my problem I suppose.

I would suggest from your limited information that your issue stems from variables outside of Lightroom Classic.

Has there been a camera firmware update since the last successful Import to LR?

Like Sahil has suggested, I would move the video files to your OS hardware and retry your import.

I'm afraid I don't understand your suggestion. My setup when I imported consisted of plugging the SD card from my camera into a slot on my PC. In effect, the SD card became an additional drive on my PC and I imported the photos from that added drive. The photos were imported but neither of the two videos on that card were imported. When I attempted the import again, the two video files did not show up on the menu of files to be imported.

When I remove the SD card from my PC and put it back in the camera I can easily view the two videos.

In the entire import process, the only mention of video files is a single button when I select "Inport" that says "import photos and videos". I went through all of the menu items and found no other mention of video. The help files for video seem to all assume that the video files have been imported; they don't seem to anticipate any problems with the import process itself.

Hi there,

As videos are not getting imported into Lightroom, could you please let us know the version of Lightroom and the operating system you're using?

Have you tried copying a video to the desktop and then try importing it into Lightroom?

Also, what video format are you trying to import?

Regards,
Sahil
