Question

Photos lost after Lightroom Classic move

I moved a Lightroom Classic folder from one server to a new server and decided to move it back.  When I tried to move it back I received a message that the folder already existed and when I checked the Finder the folder and the subfolders were still there.  I assumed I just needed to delete the top folder in Finder and do the Lightroom move again.  I did the move and it looked like it worked.  BUT, now in the Lightroom Classic Folder all of the folders have a "?"and it says the photos are missing.  I looked in Finder and the folder was not created by Lightroom in the original location.

What happened?  Where are the photos?  Did Lightroom delete them?

Looked thru the thread and either I overlooked this, or it has been ignored.

Inquiry/clarity:

Are you stating that your catalog is on a server share?

Or

Just your photos are on a server share?

First one is not supported and asking for eventual trouble, often leading to a corrupt catalog. The catalog is a sqlite database not capable for server shares. The second one can be problematic and eventually leads to lost folders, lost photos, often requiring repair.

The catalog is on my Mac, the photos are on the server.

How are you doing these moves? In Lightroom Classic, or in your operating system?

Can you show us a screen capture of both Lightroom Classic and Finder so we can see what you are seeing? Please include your screen captures in your reply by clicking on the "Insert Photos" icon. Do NOT attach files.

Here are the screen shots.

  • First is the LrC Folder tree
  • Second is the Finder in the location of the New Server (HomeDiskServer - Photos) (I had moved the folder to this server and then moved it back to the original server and lost the photos)
  • Third is the Finder in the location of the Original Server (Photos - Disk Station)

Thanks for your help.

HomeDiskServer - Photos (new server)

Photos - Disk Station (original server and location)

Neither screen capture of your operating system shows a 1998 folder. So you need to find it, using your operating system. And then you need to place this 1998 folder, and the photos inside it, into the proper place which is Photos - Disk Station/Photos
