Question

Photos on 2 hard drive photos show up in a single folder in Lightroom Classic

On my hard drive, I have about 5000 photos in one folder called 2022_04_05 and about 5600 photos in a separate folder called 2022_04_11.  Somehow, these folders became combined in Lightroom classic and show up in Lightroom Classic as one folder on my hard drive with the 2002_04_11 date and 10600 photos.  Those photos that were taken on the 4/5/2022 show up with Smart Previews and the 4/5/2022 show up as just originals.  When I right clicked on the folder in Lightroom and used the Update Folder location and pointed to the 2022_04_05 folder (thinking Lightroom might realize that the photos were in different folder on the disk, it updated the folder location to the 2022_04_05 folder, but now the 2022_04_11 photos show up as Smart Previews and the 2022_04_05 photos show up as original.  Is there a way to separate the folders in Lightroom to point without re-importing the second directory?

Thanks.

Please illustrate your problem with screenshots (embed these using the  button, do not attach them). This sounds like the '2022_04_05' folder is a subfolder of the '2022_04_11' folder, and Lightroom Classic is set to show photos in subfolders, but I am not sure what smart previews have to do with it and how that could possibly change by using the 'Update Folder Location' command.

There are a couple of ways to move your folders to where you want them to be. Check out the links to videos on how to organize your photos here: https://jkost.com/blog/lightroom-training-videos
