Question

Photoshop changes in LR Classic not appearing

If I edit a PSD (2025) file that is in my LR catalog what magic do I have perform to get the edits to consistently update and show in LR?

I can edit a PSD file, return to LR, and the changes don't show. Or I should say most of the time nothing shows. Most of the time Selecting Read Metadata From File does nothing. Sometimes if I take the edited image and go to the Develop module, the changes appear. But then going back to Grid view, the changes are no longer there. But...sometimes the edits pappear instantly. If I select the edited image in the catalog and choose to Show In Finder, the changes are there in the file preview

I have no idea how to control this appearing/not appearing other than to delete the file from the catalog and re-import. That seems a little stupid.

I'm going to list this as a bug since it's something that happens a lot

I have the same problem. The only way to get the new files to appear is to restart Lr. Very annoying.

Hi @jnwbr,

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Since the changes are visible in Finder but not reliably updating in Lightroom Classic’s Grid view, it does sound like a preview sync hiccup.

To better understand the issue and help escalate if needed, could you please:

  • Share a short screen recording showing the PSD edit in Photoshop > return to Lightroom > Develop vs Grid behavior

  • Copy & paste your System Info from Lightroom Classic:

    • Go to Help > System Info

    • Paste the complete output here (it helps identify catalog status, GPU handling, install location, etc.)

Also, you can try to rebuild the preview from the Library menu and let us know how it goes.

This will help us check for patterns and share information with the product team. We appreciate your patience!

Best,

I have a few things to share.

The video shows the file in Grid view, then it goes into Develop mode where you can see the edited object appear in the top half of the screen as shown in the PS View screenshot. The video then goes back to Grid view where the object disappears.

The Finder View is the classic example that has been around for many, many, many years where a .PSD file's preview in the Finder is masked through the first alpha channel in the document. Just the most annoying thing, but apparently not at the top of anyone's fix list. I have brought this up many times so I figure it will stay broken. But the preview that's there does show the "missing" object in the saved PS file.

Rebuilding the Preview in LR had no affect.

In Develop Zoom to 100%, allow the render to complete and then if you choose the file in Grid and perform [Cmd/Ctrl]+[S] to save the metadata to the file, then zoom in to 100% and back out to Grid, does it clear?

These are local files not updating, not cloud syncing.

And if I sort the catalog by Edit time, the update file changes postion to be the most recent. But just doesn't show the changes.
