Pixelated images when importing?

I want to import some photos from my D300s to my iMac. When I click on 'Import' I can see all the images in Grid View and they are not very clear. When I select Loupe View to decide whether or not I want to import an image it is very badly pixelated. When I hover the cursor over an image it tells correctly that it is a NEF image. What do I need to do to see a reasonably sharp image that I can use to vet my photos? Thanks for your help.

The import window only displays low resolution jpgs that are embedded in the raw files.

I suggest that you import everything, and review the photos after they have been imported.

Viewing at 1:1 in Library or Develop will give you a true impression of your raw files.

Thank you. That solved my problem. I had hoped to only import those photos that I wanted to keep but it is also easy enough to delete them after import.
