Question

Please add native anamorphic desqueeze support to Lightroom Classic

Adobe Camera Raw already offers an Anamorphic Desqueeze option in the Crop tool, with factors such as 1.33×, 1.5×, 2×, etc.

However, the same feature is missing from Lightroom Classic.

I use a Fujifilm X-T5 with a SIRUI 20mm 1.33× anamorphic lens. Without a native desqueeze tool, I have to move my images to Camera Raw or use external workarounds, which breaks the Lightroom workflow.

Please add the same non-destructive anamorphic desqueeze function to Lightroom Classic, ideally with selectable factors (1.33×, 1.5×, 2×).

Since the functionality already exists in Camera Raw, bringing it to Lightroom Classic would be extremely useful for photographers using anamorphic lenses.

    Thanks for the support :)
    Let's hope it becomes available!

Yes, good idea to have something specific which works ‘by the numbers’. That’s assuming a lens calibration profile can’t do the trick empirically? (I don’t expect it can).

For the meanwhile: it’s certainly not the same - but for a limited amount of ‘just eyeball it’ desqueeze. we can use the “Aspect” adjustment. This is one of the manual sliders found in their own separate tab of the Transform panel.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the Aspect adjustment does not really solve the problem I’m referring to.

For example, my lens has a 1.33× anamorphic squeeze, but the Aspect adjustment does not allow me to apply a precise 1.33× desqueeze.

What I’m requesting is a dedicated anamorphic desqueeze function, where the user can select or enter the exact desqueeze factor corresponding to the lens being used (1.33×, 1.5×, 2×, etc.).

Camera Raw already provides this functionality, so it would be great to have the same feature in Lightroom Classic.

I was agreeing with you and supporting your idea!

My suggestion was just something that would be better than nothing, to use right now.

The Aspect adjustment is indeed purely visual - and has a limited range. But as far as I can see, its action should be consistent between images (unlike the Upright tools, which are image-adaptive). So it should be possible to determine what Aspect slider value best approximates to 1.33x expansion (by comparing against the same photo processed in ACR) and try out that value for the meanwhile.

This will be just non-destructive, so can be later reset and substituted with a proper correction once that becomes available (assuming it will).
