Question

Presets - why convertig them is so complicated and why converted presets aren't found then???

I am fine if Adboe thinks it need to change the format – and location – of presets in Lightroom. But - what i would then expect is a seemless trasition from a user perspective, which means, presets are automatically converted, replaced AND are then available. Lightroom is a paid software, not a freeware. Why i have to spend hours of my time to deal with this hassle?

I am using Ligtroom Classic in it's latest version 10.1 on MacOS 11.1.

I have about 2400 lrtemplate-presets, bought and self-created, organized in 57 folders (mostly the ones that were offered by the preset-vendors).

There is no easy way to batch-convert them, keeping the folder structure. Instead i need to use that rather dumb Conv Free tool, going through each subfolder to to the conversion to .xmp.

BUT - even after converting and placing the subfolders into the new Camera Raw preset location, the converted presets do not show up. None of 2431 presets, from different vendors as well as all my personally created ones! And yes, the "Store with catalog" is unchecked, "Show partly compatible presets" is checked. And yes, i have of course tried unchecking and checking both, severel restarts of Lightroom, still - nothings shows up!!!

That's insane!

Question for the old timers:

Did something change in the preset migration code?

When I did the migration in 7.4 (skipped 7.3), the directory structure was maintained on both the disk and the UI.

I believe that did indeed change, but this is eye-candy only. Adding a new preset to a particular folder on disk does not add that preset to the group with that name in Lightroom. The group info is still stored inside the preset, and if there is no group info in the preset then it will show up under 'User presets'.

While it is not new i wonders even more, that Adobe haven't solved it.

I was able now to solve it with an external freeware plugin called fix presets, that saved dozens of hors of work to regroup my reimported plugins.

As said, it is - frankly said - remarkable, that Adobe never came up with a better solution for a problem they caused by changing format and location of presets in Lightroom!

Screenshots were more to proove the selected settings. To help and answer they are actually not really needed.
