Preview unavailable when importing on M1 Max MacBook Pro

Since upgrading to the M1 Max MBP, when importing files from my Fujifilm GFX100 do not show previews during import. Much of the time I'm just importing the entire card, but there are times when I'm importing to different catalogs, or want to cull prior to import that I need to see the images in the import module. This has never been an issue on my iMac Pro (which is running an older OS), but all the recent builds of LR Classic have had the same issue on Monterey and this laptop. (I've checked on Fuji forums and I seem to be the only one seeing this with this computer, OS and camera, and previous "recent" posts here, for this issue, here have been unresolved. Anyone have a clue how to fix this bug?

Seeing that screenshot makes me think of three things

1. LrC version, for Fujifilm GFX 100, at least v8.4, so not that

2. MACOS Files and Folders,Removable Volume,  LrC rights.

You might want to consider Full Disc access as well

3. A corupt preference file, but this is a new computer and a first time install of LrC??

possibility, corrupt preference file.

The preference file can get corrupted leading to buggy behavior. A corrupt preference file will survive uninstalls, updates, and upgrades. By renaming or moving or deleting the preference file you create a situation where LrC will recreate a fresh new one upon startup of LrC. Be aware various settings will revert to defaults.

Some troubleshooting steps to narrow down the issue:

1. Use Finder to copy photos from the card to a folder on your Desktop, and import into LR from that folder. Do you see previews in Import?

2. Try a different memory card.

3. Try an external card reader, e.g. this $9 USB C reader:

They do show if I copy the images to an external drive. Both if I copy the files directly or copy the entire folder structure. The weird thing is if I take the same card and put it in my imac pro, the files show normally.  I don't have another card reader here to test, but that sounds odd, seeing as it's reading and copying the files just fine, and finder sees the folder structure normally, and in the same way once copied to the drive. Seems like a LR issue to me (I've never seen a reader or card not show previews and otherwise function normally).

LR accesses files via the card reader differently than Finder, and we've seen a few reports here over the years where LR trips over a card or card reader that Finder or other apps don't. It could be a LR bug or an "incompatibility" between LR, the OS, the card reader, and/or the card.  Or it could be GoldingD's suggestion about Security & Privacy permissions for LR to access those files.  When troubleshooting, it's best not to make assumptions when narrowing down where the issue might be.

FWIW...it doesn't seem to see the file structure of cards formatted in the camera. (normally the lower "untitled" card in the left column would also show an image folder.
