problem with lightroom please help

when I want to edit a photo, lets just say to soften skin or anything for that matter,

I click on the picture to edit it and it comes out red, and I cant' see how it's looking as I'm editing it

the mouse goes over the face and the face is turning red until I click done then I see the result of it

how do I get rid of this

Paige is correct. To be clear O will hide the overlay. H will hide the pin.

You must be seeing the mask you painted. Click H to hide and H again to toggle. Then you can see the slider effects on the masked area.
