Problem with lr mobile files on Lr classic

Good evening all,

I recently had a new Mac, I backed up the Lightroom catalogue and all my photos and have mapped all these files, I do however have a problem with 'lr mobile files' I can see the picture but it says file missing and it won't sync them again from the cloud, the files are there in the cloud as I opened up standard Lightroom and all is in place. Is there a way to get these files fully back on my Lightroom classic?

many thanks for any support.

It sounds as though you didn't copy over the mobile files that were downloaded into Classic from the cloud. By default, these are stored in a "Mobile Downloads.lrdata" package, I believe in the users Pictures folder (on Mac, it's different on Windows). If you still have access to the old system, locate that package and copy it into the same location on the new Mac and that should fix the problem.

Going forward, you might want to think about changing the default location for synced downloads to one of your own choosing (preferably within your own image library structure, so that they'll be backed up with your normal image backups). You can make that change in the LrC Preferences>Lightroom Sync tab.

Thanks for the reply, as above I think you are correct, I will have a look and hopefully find it . If I can't do you know how I get lightrooom classic to grab the files again from the cliud?

You can't get LrC to "grab the files again from the Cloud", but there may be a workaround.....but how easy or difficult that may be depends on how the images were organised in the missing folder. See if you can find the original folder on the old system first, as that's a much easier option, but if you can't please post a screenshot of the Folders Panel in LrC showing the missing folder (expanded to show all the lower level folders that are missing).

What do you mean with that? That you restored Lightroom Classic to your new Mac from a backup? The default location of the Lightroom mobile images is a file called 'Mobile Downloads.lrdata' that is located in your catalog folder. Did you restore that too? If not, then that is the reason that the images are 'missing'.
