Hello everyone, I have a problem moving photos within Lightroom. When I want to move photos from one folder to another folder, it takes a very long time (about 10 minutes for 50 photos). Unfortunately, it is not possible to work in this way. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Do you have the same/similar issue if you move files outside of LrC for those same folders/drives?

No, if I do it in my operating system I do not have any problems.

Move the photos in your operating system. Then re-connect in LrC.

Better yet, develop a workflow that doesn't require moving photos from here to there.

Yes I could do it like this but it is not what I want to do. It should be possible to move photos within LR without having problems. It is much easier to import my photos into LR and put them into the folders within LR because I have much more possibilities to classify my photos before putting them into different folders.

I get the impression from your post, that you might consider "photos" and "files" to be more or less the same thing. Also, though I am less clear about this, that you might be relating 'classifying' photos with having them in particular folders.

Of course you should manage your own photos however you wish and the above notions are not incorrect - just: they form only a part of the truth.

As a general comment, I (and many other people) have found it helpful to consider the wider possibilities. Multiple other forms of organisation can happen too, in parallel - freely, without getting in each other's way - by enriching the images with virtual (metadata) forms of organisation and grouping. This is the main added value IMO, that a Catalog gives you. Also multiple virtual copies can exist referring to a common file on disk; the Catalog allows each to be differently edited, differently organised by keywords etc, and grouped independently in virtual Collections to suit various usages. And all of this can freely change over time without any impact for the files and folders themselves, which merely stay as they are throughout.

IOW a de-coupling of actual storage : image library, can be highly efficient and productive. This does just require letting go of some familiar (and often unquestioned) conceptions about what constraints - and what tasks - working with digital images has to involve. This can be initially scary, may feel uncontrolled even - but soon, quite liberating!
