I see that the last two members to reply in this post mention OneDrive. I have no idea if the Authors also uses OneDrive in conjunction with the LrC catalog.

While using OneDrive for LrC (supposedly SYNC) has been described as a match made in made in Heaven, others see it as a match made in Hell. The OneDrive association with the LrC catalog can cause all sorts of problems. You may find several Community Discussions on this.

In your copy of LrC, in /Help/System Info/ for the info on where your catalog is stored. Do you see something like this?

Library Path: C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Pictures\Lightroom\Lightroom.lrcat

Notice the OneDrive in that path.

If when you created your computer user account on your Windows PC, you accepted the Microsoft insisting upon creating or using a MS account, then you got stuck with OneDrive. Now OneDrive use can be Ok, but not if forced upon you. If you had the knowledge as to creating a Local account, then you probably would have not run into this issue. But it is fixable, or at least worked around.

The OneDrive is busy busy busy altering the library path to certain System Folders (including user folders) and can also be busy with various file types. These folders include Desktop, Documents, Pictures, mayby Music and Videos (not sure)

I could get into how to  disassociate OneDrive with Photos, catalogs, the Pictures folder, but a more direct workaround may be as follows:

  1. Close LrC if running
  2. Bring up your Windows File Explorer
  3. Create a new folder. Name it what you want, perhaps MyPhotos, or Lightroom, or .., well anything other than Pictures.
  4. Copy your catalog in that Pictures Folder to the new folder.
  5. Double clcik on that new copy in that new folder
  6. You will probably need to fix in the catalog missing folders/photos
  7. You may, depending on whre you keep them, want to move your photos.

A few links, you may need this first one:

As a Windows user- This is similar to a problem I had several years ago with Lr v5 (IIRC)

Worth trying the following procedure to see if it solves the problem. (It cannot harm if done as suggested)

  1. Do a computer reboot/re-start
  2. Open Lightroom-Classic (Leave it running)
  3. Open the Task Manager.  [Windows Key+X] - [T] -
  4. Click the disclosure triangle on - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic (x)- (to see sub-processes)
  5. [Right-Click] on [LrC] Adobe Lightroom.Classic
  6. Select the option "Go to details"-
  7. Right-Click on "Lightroom.exe" in the details list-
  8. Click on [Set Priority]
  9. Set the Priority to "High
  10. Close Task Manager.
  11. Close all programs and Re-Boot the computer
  12. As you open Lightroom- Reset the Preferences by holding down [SHIFT+ALT].
  13. Check LrC opens and closes correctly.
Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Please post in a reply a screenshot with LrC closed, not running, of what is shown using Windows File Explorer of the files and folders in the folder your catalog is in.

Following the instructions mentioned in the link, I deleted the preferences in the indicated folder.

Please try if it helps to reset the preferences, as they are not reset when removing and reinstalling: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

If that does not help, please share more details on your computer (CPU, RAM, GPU and RAM ....).

Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately, this solution doesn't work. I deleted the preference files, restarted Lightroom Classic (not working), and I deleted and reinstalled Lightroom Classic (and it still doesn't work).

Here are more details about my first computer:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz

RAM: 16 GB

And the second one:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5825U with Radeon Graphics 2.00 GHz

RAM: 16 GB
