Problems with LR Classic and PhotoSweeper

Hello!

I've run into a problem with Light Room Classic after I used PhotoSweeper to identify duplicates in my photos collection. I didn't follow through with the PhotoSweeper scan in that I didn't delete any duplicate files that it had identified. I did notice the next day, however, that many of my photos had the dreaded exclamation mark! I have been through the "Would you like to locate it?" process many times and cannot locate the original. The path that I'm presented with (to locate the original file) gets truncated. I'm not sure that makes sense, but the search process doesn't give me access to the full pathway, in fact, if I use Finder to locate the photo file by entering the full path, it returns nothing. As if the pathway is corrupted or non existent? Anyone have any ideas? The PhotoSweeper helps says that once I've "rediscovered" the correct address of one photo, then all the remaining lost files will also be found. I'm pretty sure the issue is operator error, but I just can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

My view on 'Duplicate Finders (& Delete)' for Lightroom-Classic users:

The LrC Catalog is designed to only make a reference to one file when multiple copies exist.

If you use a (standalone)  Duplicate Finder to 'Delete' files then you must know which of the duplicates is referenced in the catalog, otherwise you run the risk of deleting the file referenced in the catalog and seeing the 'Missing' error on the preview.

"The path that I'm presented with (to locate the original file) gets truncated."

LrC will not present a path to find missing photos. Finding 'missing' images is entirely a manual process using Finder/File Explorer where YOU search your drives for a photo file by its known filename.

For deleting duplicates WITHIN a LrC CATALOG- a Plugin is suggested-

Duplicate Photos (Lightroom Queen)

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. After reading your
email, and getting help from others, I see how foolish & risky it was for
me to use a stand alone file remover when I didn't understand exactly what
it was doing. I think I'm paying the price however - tediously searching
for the original location of each of the files that were moved.
Thanks, again!

Have you contacted vendor support for 'PhotoSweeper' to check whether they have any suggestions?

Thanks for responding to my question(s)! Yes, I did reach out to
PhotoSweeper customer help, and they provided me with
info that got me on the right track to getting my "lost" files back to
their original locations. Looks like I'm in for some time-consuming
sessions!
