Product: Adobe Lightroom Classic
UI language: Polish (Polski) — issue also affects English source copy
OS: Windows 11
Lightroom version:
[paste from Help → System Info → Copy]
Steps to reproduce:
1. Library → select any photo → File → Export (Ctrl+Shift+E)
2. File Settings → Image Format: JPEG
3. Enable “Limit File Size To” → set to 5000 K
4. Click Export
Actual result:
A dialog appears. In Polish UI the title is “Aktualizacja limitu rozmiaru pliku”
and the message reads:
“Jeśli obraz nie może osiągnąć limitu, zostanie on eksportowany do
minimalnego możliwego rozmiaru pliku.”
The English source text (approximate) is:
“If the image cannot reach the limit, it will be exported to the minimum
possible file size.”
Problem:
Both wordings are misleading. “Minimum possible file size” strongly suggests
Lightroom will crush JPEG quality to the smallest file (e.g. tens of KB).
That is alarming and contradicts what users expect from a paid subscription.
What the message should describe is the opposite scenario: when even at full
quality the compressed file is smaller than the cap (e.g. 800 KB or 4999 KB
with a 5000 KB limit), Lightroom should export at the *maximum possible*
file size that still stays *below* the limit — i.e. best quality that fits,
not the smallest file Lightroom can produce.
Wrong (current EN): “…exported to the minimum possible file size.”
Wrong (current PL): “…eksportowany do minimalnego możliwego rozmiaru pliku.”
Proposed EN copy:
“If the image cannot reach the limit at the current quality setting, it will
be exported at the maximum possible file size without exceeding the limit.”
Proposed PL copy:
“Jeśli zdjęcie nie może osiągnąć limitu przy bieżącej jakości, zostanie
wyeksportowane w maksymalnym możliwym rozmiarze pliku — poniżej limitu.”
Expected behavior (for clarity in the report):
- File would exceed limit → reduce quality until ≤ limit
- File already below limit at full quality → export as-is (max quality /
max size under cap), do NOT reduce to minimum
Thank you.
