Protecting Customer Information in Keyword MetaData

I have a cabinet shop.

Whenever I conjure up an image I usually associate it with the customer we built the cabinets for.

I would like to include the customer's name as part of the keywords.

I am, however, very sensitive to anything that might impinge on my customer's privacy.

I don't necessarily want to include any publicly identifiable information for any of these cabinet jobs.

Who has access to these keywords once the images make it to a website?

Are these keywords part of the metadata (like copyright etc)  that travels with the photo?

Any keyword you create in Lightroom can be set to "Include on Export" or not. Sounds like the latter is what you are looking for, only you will ever see the keyword, and it will not be preset when you export.

dj_paige's answer is correct. Double-click any keyword in the Keyword List, and if that keyword should not be public, deselect Include on Export.

For additional control over including or suppressing exported metadata, you can try the Metadata Wrangler plug-in.

Yes, the keywords are in the metadata of images you export. Once on the web, anyone and everyone can see them.
