Question

questions about presets

I have installed lightroom on a my windows 10 PC and since 2 weeks also on my Mac Book Pro. As I got informed meanwhile, Adobe has changed the old preset format from lrtemplate to xml due to that the develop presets are now stored directly within camera raw folder. All other presets for export, etc. are still stored within the lightroom main folder in lrtemplate format.

following questions I have:

1. when backing up all my develop presets, do I still need my presets in lrtemplate format (stored in develop preset folder) or do I only have to consider my develop presets in xml format?

2. Can I delete my old lrtemplate develop presets ?

3. How is it possible to copy and use my under windows created presets Lightroom on my Mac Book Pro ?

4. Which folders must be considered for securing all my LR settings (LR preferences, develop presets, export presets, local adjustments etc.) in a backup. I just want copy over all folders my backup HDD.

Thank you very much for your kind support and answering to my questions.

kind regards

to questions 3 you tell me yes it is possible. Haven't got it working until now and lightroom tells me always like file not found or recognized..... even when developpresets are located in the lightroom catalogue which is on the connected ssd.

can you tell me how I get the under windows created xml-develop presets working on my macos lr installation?

Is there somewhere a detailed workflow available?

Many thanks

An XMP file is an XMP file (a text file with the XMP extension). There is no such thing as a ‘Mac XMP’ or a ’Windows XMP’. Same for the .lrtemplate presets. However, the text inside a preset file could refer to something that is different and OS specific. An import preset could refer to a folder location on your disk, but because Windows uses a drive letter and MacOS uses disk names, these presets are not interchangeable.
