Good morning to the community ,

I'm working for an organization which is providing to me with keywords list to be used.

The fist time : the keywords list was imported in LR.

BUT the organization provided to me with regular updates of this keywords list .

The updated list has the same structure as the first one, but with additional keywords inside to complete the initial one .

I did import the second list : but then i have 2 keywords list into LR with most of the keywords similar.... which is not good.

I cannot delete the initial list imported because it will remove all the keywords tagged on my pictures already in the catalog.

My question is the following : How do I merge the two list OR how to update the initial list already in LR by importing only the new items ?

Many thanks in advance for the one that can help me.

VL

This is my experience with Lightroom Classic v8.3 in Windows-10 (and an 'Experimental' catalog)

    1) My first thoughts were to compare the old and new lists to find the difference, and then after extracting only the new keywords by editing the 'new' list, import only the 'different' keywords to Lr.

    https://www.quickdiff.com/

This worked but it placed the 'new' keywords randomly in the keyword hierarchy structure which needed major re-arranging in the Keywords panel.

    2) I then tried- Exporting my current Keywords to a Keywords.txt file, modifying it by simply adding the 'new' keywords (as identified by 'quickdiff' comparing the 'organization provided' lists) - keeping the hierarchy structure exactly the same, then Importing back to Lightroom- it worked. And none of the photos with existing keywords in the catalog were affected.

It takes some work but I believe the answer from Akash - "combine the two keyword lists together and them import it into Lightroom" is, in a sense, correct. But not by using the 'organization provided' lists!

    a) Export Keywords to Lightroom Keywords.txt

    b) Insert the 'new' keywords. (Identified by comparing 'organization provided' Iists.)

    c) Import Lightroom Keywords.txt back into Lr.

Test by creating a temporary catalog, going 'small' to understand the process first before applying it to your working catalog.

    Hi VL,

I think that you should somehow combine the two keyword lists together and them import it into Lightroom. Since one list of keywords is already being added there is no way within Lightroom to merge the other one into it. It would be interesting to know if our experts on this community have some insights on this.

I'll also ask around and see if something can be done.

    Thanks,

    Akash
