Hi, What's the best way to un-install my buggy copy of LR Classic and reinstall a clean version on a Macbook running Sequoia, without losing my catalogue, presets etc. Thanks

You should just be able to use the Creative Cloud desktop app to uninstall Lightroom Classic, then reinstall.

As with almost all other applications, uninstalling the application doesn’t remove the documents you created with it. Catalogs are Lightroom Classic documents, so they aren’t deleted when you uninstall the application.

Regarding settings, presets, plug-ins, etc.: When you uninstall Lightroom Classic, make sure you click Keep in the message that asks you whether you want to remove or keep your settings, as shown in the picture below.

Also, I re-iterate jane-e’s question about what bugs you are seeing. Because there are some problems that can be addressed but not by reinstalling; sometimes the fix is something else. So maybe you don’t even need to reinstall.

Thanks for the help. I will look at other things instead of reinstalling.

In addition to the other good advice offered here, rather than reinstalling an OS, the problem would be much more likely to be an issue with a corrupt user account on your macOS. You can create a new user account with Admin access and log in to it to test this. It is quick and easy to do and often remedies problems that appear to be at the OS level.

@trevors59492957

you should heed the lrc experts before uninstalling.  but, if after following their suggestions (and updating this thread), you decide to uninstall, repost your question in the download & install forum.

Hi, don't think I am going to go down the re install route now. Will try the suggestions that other have made. Cheers.

Uninstall/reinstall is a Windows thing. We don't dso that on the Mac because it doesn't help.

Problems are more likely either:

1. corrupted catalog

2. corrupted preferences

3. software conflict (bad plug-in, files in cloud storage, etc.)

I would look at those first.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't really want to go to the bother of reinstalling, so will look at the suggestions you have made. Thanks again.

I think you have decided on a "solution" that doesn't solve anything. Re-installing rarely fixes problems. Please describe your problems in detail.

If you really insist on uninstalling and reinstalling: In the Adobe Creative Cloud App, click on Apps, then under LrC click on the triple-dots and select uninstall. Then repeat, except it will say install.

Hi. Thanks for reply. Am now looking at other things which may be causing the problem, as suggested by other replies on here.

@trevors59492957

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud desktop to the Lightroom Classic forum for you.

Can you tell us in what way your copy is "buggy"? Also, what are your versions of LRC and OS?

Jane
