    Some more information please-

Why do you need to "Read Metadata from File" ?

What preview image do you have selected to read metadata?

And if it is selected what do you mean by "can not find..."?

Is it possible you are seeing the "Missing" [!] on previews and not the [Metadata conflict !] ?

    Screen-clips might assist an answer.

    Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Another possibility: You have a filter set (e.g. files with 5 stars), and when you did Metadata > Read Metadata From File, the photo's new metadata no longer matches the current filter or currently selected smart collection and is no longer shown in grid view or the filmstrip. Turn off filters by making sure Library > Enable Filters is unchecked, and select All Photographs in Catalog panel.  Then look for the photo again.
