Recover edits from backup without overwriting recent edits

Question

I just noticed that my library lost a ton of photo edits.  How can I recover my old edits from a backup file without overwriting all my new edits I've been making to my photos?  For some reason, I found out that photos were missing from my library, but I was able to reimport them.  Unfortunately, the edits made on the photos years ago are lost.  I think I can restore the edits, but I don't want to impact what I've been doing to add and edit photos recently.

Restore the catalog from the appropriate backup to a temporary folder on your hard disk.

Then you should opened this catalog in Lightroom that the catalog is updated to the recent version if it's necessay.

In the nxet step open LR with your recent catalog and do an import from the restored catalog.

You should not have reimported them, but have reverted to a catalog backup. Now, you can do the following: Unzip the backup catalog, and start Lightroom Classic with your current catalog as usual. Then choose 'Import from Another Catalog' and select only those old photos that lost their edits. You can probably select them based on their folders.
