Reinstalling Lighroom 5

I need to reinstall Lightroom 5 because it keeps crashing. All my photos are on an external hard drive. Is there a link for the proper instructions on how to do it?  Will I lose any data/photos if I reinstall? Should I have the external drive connected or disconnected when I do it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. I am happy to pay to upgrade, as I love using Lightroom. However, I was hoping to avoid the subscription model. Is there a version that would be supported, that I can get? Thanks.

The lack of support is just Adobe's way of saying there will be no further bug fixes or camera additions. People here will still try to help with issues, but as soon as you get a new camera, you'll need a newer version of Lightroom. And for that there is only a subscription.

It's unlikely that re-installing Lightroom will fix the problem.

If Lightroom keeps crashing, you might want to describe the problem in detail. Start by telling us your operating system version NUMBER. We need the version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date".

If there is an error message when Lightroom crashes, please quote the exact complete unedited word-for-word error message.

Thanks for your reply. I am running Lightroom 5.7.1 on MacOS 10.13.6. It seems to be failing when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep (easy to avoid), or when I am in the Develop Module. No error message, other than Send Report to Apple. In the details there is some data which I am happy to post. Is it possible it is very computing intensive, and I need to make memory adjustments? Thanks in advance.

Lightroom 5.7.1 does not run properly on OSX 10.13, if it runs at all.

You need to upgrade your Lightroom to version 6.14 or to Lightroom Classic CC. Both require you to pay money, it is not a free upgrade. Please note: version 6.14 is completely unsupported by Adobe, they do not provide tech support, and it will never be updated.

The alternative is to downgrade your operating system to OSX 10.12.X

    Hi CarlinMA,

Sorry that Lightroom 5 keeps crashing and you're having trouble reinstalling it. Please use the below link to download Lightroom 5:

    Download Photoshop Lightroom

Once the app is downloaded, please update it to the latest version 5.7.1

Will I lose any data/photos if I reinstall? Should I have the external drive connected or disconnected when I do it?

Reinstalling the app will not remove any user data like Photos/Presets.

You may leave the external drive disconnected while reinstalling.

    Thanks,

    Akash
