Remove keywords from file on disk

I am using LRC v14.2.

When I remove a keyword from a file in LRC, it does disappear from the Keywording panel, but when I look at the metadata for that same photo using another program, that keyword is still written in the file on the disk.

How do I completely remove the keyword from the file so that it doesn't show up on any programs/apps?

You save the metadata to the file after you have removed the keyword in LrC. Select the desired photos. Then ... I am at work, I don't have LrC here, but the command is in the Metadata menu, I don't know the exact wording but I think it says "Save metdata to file". I know you can also use Ctrl-S.
