Restore backup cataog

I reset my preference and lost most of my catalog.  I went to 'Open catalog', navigated to where my last backup was before I reset my preferences, but things are grey-ed out.  I've attached a screen shot of the catalog I want to restore.  How do I get my backup restored?  Thanks in advance for your help.

First up, as F. McLion is referring, LrC could be opening the wrong catalog and you should look for the correct one. Use Finder to navigate to it, a .lrcat file, double click on it, and cross fingers.

Second up, if you do need to recover a backup that you created via LrC, using Finder you need to copy the backup to a folder that is not the backup folder, and you need to uncompressed (in zip) the file.

So I unzipped the folder and the screenshot attached shows what it looks like.  Since there are two files, which one do I click on and what is the other one for?

Following for clarity, with more descriptions of what is what, an example from my Test Catalog (a catalog for trying things out, as opposed to work, a catalog I have no qualms about fouling up) . In this case the files in the folder for a catalog that is currently open:

Resetting preferences does not touch the catalog. Try to find the latest version of the catalog before restoring a backup.

If needed, the backup is zipped. Before opening, you need to unzip.
