Question

returning files uploaded to Cloud from Lightroom Classic

I accidentally started uploading files that were in my Lightroom classic catalog and they're no longer on my laptop but up in the  adobe cloud. Is there anyway to get them back and in the folders that they came from so that my catalog will be accurate again.

Please describe in more detail what you did when you say 'uploading'. Normally uploading (or syncing) files to the cloud means the cloud will contain a copy of that file. The original is not deleted from your disk.

When I opened up LightroomCassic this morning things looked quite different.  A few days ago after I had done the update,  a little notice came up about sycing  and I must've turned it on. There's a little cloud up in the upper right hand corner that I opened and turned sinking off yesterday.   What happened a couple of days ago, looking at my catalog in light room which has over 125,000 images in it, there were a lot of zeros next to the various folders listed. I then opened these folders up in finder and the folders were there but the files were gone. I have a duplicate external hard drive that has a copy of everything from my primary external hard drive but I do not have it catalogued in Lightroom. So when I look at the folders the files were there.  they were missing in the primary drive.  this happened to many of the folders on the primary drive.  This time I resisted the urge to move files via the Finder from the secondary external drive to the primary external drive and then synchronize the folder.   I did go into the Adobe cloud and found a lot of my images there but it was nothing like what I had in my catalog.  That's when I realized that everything was being moved off my laptop into the cloud but it was all quite confusing, that's when I started asking questions about is there a way to fix things.  Now in the Lightroom catalog except for one large group of images in my jewelry folder it seems like many of the images are back and I can open them in photo shop.  I did verify through Finder that there are still missing images but now I'm thinking they might  magically reappear.   What I do find interesting when I look at the external drives on the desktop there is almost a 2 TB difference in size and that hasn't changed from yesterday.   I will send you some screen captures to give you an idea of what I've been looking at.  I think I'm going to shut my computer off and see if any more zeros disappear.

Turning on sync in Lightroom Classic won't remove images from your hard disk. If Lightroom Classic syncs images to the cloud (that is something you have to actively do, by placing them in a synced collection), then Lightroom Classic will upload a smart preview, not the original and it will not remove the local original. So whatever happend, it wasn't caused by enabling sync.
