Right Click - Nothing Happens

I just installed LR Classic and imported several folders worth of photos. I now want to rename and delete some of the folders. When I right-click on the folder, nothing happens - no dialogue box pops up. I tried closing LR, restarting my MacBook, etc. Plenty of space on my computer as it is new.

    Maybe the righ click works but very slow?

    Try to optimize catalog option. 

    Something wrong with the catalog after upgrading to LR12. Many options are very slow.

    As an update, I spent an hour or so with Adobe chat, we tried:

    1. Uninstalling, re-installing
    2. Installing an older version of LR Classic
    3. Closing, rebooting, at least 10 times in-between
    4. Looking at preferences, privacy settings, permissions

    Nothing has worked. Adobe Support keeps ending the chat now each time I go back to that ticket thread. This is beyond frustrating. Three hours into my free trial, I have an annoying glitch and find support poor - they just won't respond anymore. I am so disappointed. I've been using the old LR until it became too outdated and eventually it crashed on me badly (also had a very old laptop).
