RX10 files deadly slow import on super fast computer

I have a Sony A7R4 and 29GB download to LR Classic quite fast (minutes). I have a Sony RX10 and the files download extremely, extremely slow (3 to 4 hours).

I download to the C drive with no other programs running. The ssd C drive has 1.4TB spare space. I have RTX 4080 graphics card. I have 64GB RAM 64bit system

What is wrong?

download extremely, extremely slow (3 to 4 hours).

It's hard to imagine how potential differences in USB speeds due to the type of USB port could lead to 3 to 4 hour imports (not "downloads"). How many images are you importing, anyway? It's much more likely that the card in the Sony RX10 is malfunctioning, or the cardreader is malfunctioning, or specific USB connector/port is malfunctioning. This is where troubleshooting should take place to find a potential malfunction of either the camera card or the USB port/cable/cardreader.

By the way, you don't tell us how you connect. Is it card reader, or via directly hooking up the computer to the camera? Is it the same for each camera, or are different connections/hardware used for each camera. Please give us the details.

Also, please tell us if the import from the Sony RX10 ever worked at a reasonable speed, or has it always been this slow.

Thanks for all replies,

I think I found the issue. I noticed that all files had a crop icon in the Library module. So I have tested and found out that the camera was not set to the default image aspect ratio. I changed this and now LR imports without adding the crop. What I learnt was whatever ratio is set in the camera, once in lightroom the whole sensor size image can be reverted to if required in the crop module. With photography/Lightroom every day is a school day :O)

P.s. Can file this under user error :O(

With all due respect @nxf2 I don't see what this has to do with the original problem of slow importing.

Hey, @nxf2. Welcome to the Lightroom Classic community. I'll help you figure this out.

I think the bottleneck is in the supported USB standard for both Cameras. The Sony AR74 has a USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible USB Type-C™ port that can go upto 5Gbps, and the RX10 has USB 2.0 connectivity.

Also, not all USB ports on the CPU act the same; there is almost always a mix of USB 2, 3.1/3.2, 4 ports, and additional Type-C ports, each hosting a variety of differences in speed and power outputs. Before it gets confusing, and I start assuming, I'll suggest you try swapping the cables and ports and check if that helps. If it does not, you're likely held back by the USB 2.0 on the RX10.

Thanks!
