Question

Save Metadata to File ignores Tag-Settings

Hi,

when I create in Lightroom Classic CC a tag hierarchie, where the option "Include on Export" of some node-tags is disabled, then these nodes-tags are still saved by means of the "Save Metadata to File" function. Is this a bug or a feature? How can I reach, that only certain tags of images are saved and not its parent tags, which I do not include for export?

Easy example for my tag tree:

myTags -> January -> Pizza

A photo is tagged by "Pizza" and I want, that only this tag ist stored, because the "Include on Export" option is not enabled for "January" and "myTags".

But after saving metadata to file in the corresponding xmp-file stands: myTags|January|Pizza. Why? And how can I avoid this?

Best regards,

Thomas

You can't. Since the XMP is also meant to be a redundant storage to the catalog, the hierarchy needs to be in there.

The flags you mention are respected in the Export module only when saving to a format that doesn not include XMP.

Thanks and I guess, I now know, why the hierarchy is included in the XMP files for the original photos.

Only if you export raw images to another location, then the hierarchy is not included in the XMP file (based on the corresponding setting), which is also stored to the other location.
