Question

Saving exports and originals

Is there an easy way to set apart the originals I've edited and exported from lightroom? I don't want to backup an entire wedding (bad shots and all) if I don't have to take up that much space. I'd like to only back up the images I've exported and their originals incase I need to go back and re-edit, if possible. Thanks so much!

If you mark these images (for example by using rating stars), the you can create a smart collection that automatically collects them. You can also create a smart collection that would do the opposite: select all the images that you didn’t give a rating.

You want to only back-up only the photos that you have actually edited?

You want to keep all of the originals? Or do you only want to keep the originals that are of photos you actually edited?

These aren't clear from your problem statement.

Also, it seems as if (reading between the lines) you want to delete photos from LR once you edit the photos ... this is highly discouraged, and not a good thing to do.

Can you please clarify what you want?

    To clarify:

I want to keep the originals of the photos I've actually edited.

I don't want to delete the originals from Lightroom. I meant delete them off of my hard drive so I'm not taking up so much space with the reject images.

As of right now, when I export the edited image, it goes to a folder within the original destination when I imported my memory card. I'm trying to separate the originals of my edited images within my destination folder on my computer from the rejects.

    Does that make more sense?

So do you want to delete the rejects or just move them elsewhere? In both cases, read my suggestion to select them by creating smart collections. Create a smart collection that collects all rejects. There you can select them all, and either drag & drop them into another folder or go to 'All Photographs' and press the Delete key. Or even easier: use the 'X' key to reject the images you don't want anymore, go to 'All Photographs' and then select 'Photo - Delete Rejected Photos'.

Simply set up a collection for the picks/keepers.

Export copies sent to clients can be added back to the catalog as a permanent record or set up a publish service to a hard drive folder.
