screen goes black when increasing zoom.

Question

I am currently running version 15.5 of Lightroom Classic.  I have had an issue over the past few versions where while in the Develop Mode and trying to  enlarge or magnify the image during editing the screen goes black.  I can only get the picture back by selecting the fit to screen option, but I am unable to utilize a zoomed in version of the image for more refined selections or any other type of editing.  Is this a common error or after all these years am I doing something wrong?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Can you send your system info, a screen recording of the issue, and a numbered list of the exact steps needed to reproduce it?
