Question

Screen mirroring Lightroom Classic from iMac to Macbook Air

I am running Lightroom Classic (14.0.1) on an M1 iMac. I'm trying to screen mirror to an M1 MacBook Air. Both computers run Sequoia 15.1.1. My Lightroom files all sit on the iMac.

I can set up the screen mirroring but Lightroom Classic doesn't seem to play ball. For example in Library mode with a Grid View I want to show the selected individual image in a Secondary display on the MacBook Air. In that way I can be viewing the Grid on one screen but see an individual image  in detail on the other.

But Lightroom resolutely will only appear on one screen at a time.

Is this just a feature of Lightroom and I'm asking the impossible, or is it a bug, or am I not going about it the right way?

Mike

This should work fine, I do it all the time. After you add the iPad as another display, there are two specific things to do:

1. Make sure that Screen Mirroring for the iPad is set to Use As Separate Display. If you don’t do this, it will be in Mirror mode, which means it will simply repeat the Mac screen on the iPad. That’s useful for some things, but if you want to use the iPad to extend the Mac desktop, Use As Separate Display must be selected.

2. Open macOS System Settings / Displays, and use the Arrange button to tell the Mac where the iPad is relative to the iMac display. For example, if you put the iPad to the right of the iMac, then click the Arrange button and drag the icon of the iPad to position it to the right of the iMac in the same way. After that, the pointer should move between the displays as you expect. For example, if you move the pointer past the right edge of the iMac display, it will enter the left edge of the iPad display.

You would do those two same steps whether you connected an iPad over AirPlay Screen Mirroring, or connected any other standard display or TV with a cable.

After those two steps are done, you’ll have the option of using the Lightroom Classic Secondary Display window on the iPad, using any of the commands on the Window > Secondary Display submenu (such as Window > Secondary Display > Grid).

If the Secondary Display window appears on the iMac, choose the command Lightroom Classic > Preferences, click Display, and click the icon of the other display (the iPad) so that the Secondary Display opens there next time. Or you can drag the Secondary Display window to the iPad.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Adobe Community!

Well, it is very different workflow you are trying. Most of the people would prefer to use an external monitor to do that. It may be possible to connect these two machines together, but I don't think it is supported in Lightroom Classic.

Thanks,

Mohit
