Question

Second monitor window moves to main monitor and blocks access

Windows 11 x64

Two monitors attached via DisplayPorts on same graphic card

Lr > Preferences > Display > Secondary window > Right side monitor selected

Lr primary window opens on left monitor and secondary loupe view open on right monitor as expected.

If Lr main window is minimized or another app is brought in front of Lr on the main (left) monitor and other app is opened on the right monitor, when focus returns to Lr the secondary Lr window moves to the main left monitor.  There is no way to access the main Lr window to disable the second display menu.  The Lr secondary window sticks in front of the primary window on the left side monitor.

I have not experimented with secondary window much, but did notice a difference depending on the window handling.

If (once moved to the different monitor) this secondary window remains in floating windowed mode - I didn’t find the positioning of that within the overall Windows desktop area (which spans all monitors) to be totally stable.

But if, instead, the secondary window is maximised to fill whichever monitor it sits on - that was better behaved in my experience. E.g. in the example you mention, of minimising and then restoring the overall LrC app.

I have the second Lr monitor set to full screen.  Lr recognizes the [Shift][F11] command to switch in and out of full screen.  Full screen mode properly fits whichever monitor is used.  My left and right monitors are different sizes.  Right side is smaller.

The default non-full screen size of the second Lr window was completely mismatched to either of my display heights.  Width correctly fit ~1/2 the screen height on the second monitor.  But the Lr window height was twice the available screen area even on the larger primary display.  I manually resized the Lr window to fit the height of the smaller monitor.

You can disable the secondary window by using the shortcut: Ctrl-F11.

Pressing [F11] alone cycles the second monitor on and off.  So that does workaround the blocked windows issue.  Thank you.

After the secondary Lr window has moved to the primary left monitor, Lr > Preferences > Display > Secondary window now shows the Left side monitor selected.  So perhaps the root cause here is related to that preferences setting somehow being changed from the original right side designation to the left.

The issue may also correlate with the computer going to sleep and waking.  Perhaps Lr isn’t seeing the second (right) monitor when the machine wakes.  I tried to reproduce this by manually putting the computer to sleep but that didn’t trigger the behavior.  It only seems to happen after the computer sleeps due to a power setting timeout.

That issue of display setup reliably re-waking from sleep, is a real irritation! Not so much with me for window sizing: I only operate full-screen with LrC. My issue is of colour calibration only getting reloaded for the primary monitor in this circumstance. WIndows needs a “nudge” for any additional monitor each time: opening the Display Settings dialog is enough.
