Seems to hang after 13.3 update on MacOS 14.5 MacMini M1

After the update to Lightroom CC 13.3 on my MacMini M1 (Sonoma 14.5), after some minutes of working, Lightroom CC becomes practically unusable. Even applying Presets, flagging files as "Picked" or adding them to a "Target Collection" takes ages. The overall system performance is OK, everything else e.g. playing Youtube videos, browsing the web, even writing this post is working as expected in parallel.

No "spinning beachball" or anyhing like that. It seems as if Lightroom or the Catalog internally becomes very busy for some reason.

After some seconds all actions that have been issues in the meantime are done in one go, comparable to some tasks that are queued and then are released all of a sudden and the game starts from the beginning.

Also a restart of LR CC helps for a few minutes.

I didn't have any issues before the 13.3 update, so I suppose it is directly related.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to debug further are welcome.

Please post a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be obtained from the Help > Systrem Info menu item.

Note that the System Info dialog has 'Copy' button at top right vorner. You can use this to capture the info, then paste same into your next post to the forum.

A few things to try:

  • reset preferences
  • make sure your antivirus checker is not checking your catalog file (or the folder it is stored in)
  • turn on the Activity Monitor and see if any resource on your computer is heavily used

Hey, @dhphotographysbg. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. Before troubleshooting, please update Lightroom Classic to the latest version (v13.3.1) via the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Where do you keep your Lightroom catalog & the original images? Internal or the external drive? Do you have a recent catalog backup?

Try these suggestions:

1 - Move the catalog from to a non-syncing, local folder on your target Mac Mini.

If this does not help, launch Lightroom Classic with a new catalog from File > New catalog & then go to File > Import from catalog > target your old catalog. Proceed with merging the catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog & check if that helps.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
