I cannot sync faces in Lightroom Classic with Lightroom in cloud.

I need to get the mames in the keywords.

Is it possible?

How?

Hello,

The core issue is that keywords, including those generated by face recognition in Lightroom Classic, do not reliably sync back and forth between Classic and the Creative Cloud (CC) ecosystem (Lightroom desktop/mobile/web).

While the face detection feature in Classic (People view) uses the names you assign to generate keywords, these keywords are often not synced to the cloud-based Lightroom apps, and if they are, the sync is typically a one-time, one-way transfer during the initial sync of an image, and even then, the keyword hierarchy is lost (flattened).

💡 Potential Workaround for Initial Sync
The most common, albeit limited, method to get the names/keywords into the cloud is by ensuring the metadata is written to the file before the photo is initially synced.

Here is the general procedure:

Identify and Name Faces in Classic: Make sure all the faces in Lightroom Classic are named, which converts the names into keywords (these are often stored internally in the catalog).

Save Metadata to File:

Select the photos you want to sync in the Library module.

Go to Metadata > Save Metadata to File (or use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+S on Windows or Command+S on Mac). This writes the keywords (including the face names) into the file's metadata (e.g., XMP sidecar files for RAWs or directly into JPEGs/DNGs).

Sync the Photos:

Add the photos to a new or existing Synced Collection in Lightroom Classic.

Ensure syncing is active (the cloud icon in the upper right).

When Lightroom Classic generates the Smart Previews to upload to the cloud, it reads the keywords from the file's metadata and transfers them to the Creative Cloud catalog.

⚠️ Important Caveats:

This transfer is generally one-way (Classic to Cloud). Keywords added or changed in the cloud usually do not sync back to Classic.

This may be a one-time event for new images. Subsequent keyword changes in Classic may or may not reliably update in the cloud, depending on your Lightroom Classic version and specific settings (some users report it may be triggered again by saving metadata to file).

Lightroom (CC) has a flat keyword structure, so if your keywords in Classic are hierarchical (e.g., "Family > John"), the hierarchy will be lost in the cloud.

The video below explains how to sync your edits between Lightroom Classic and Lightroom (CC).
