Slow image rendering in develop module
Greetings all, long time reader here. First time posting. This is going to be a long post, sorry. Just wanted to give as much information as I could . Over the last few updates for Lightroom I have noticed image rendering in the develop moduale getting slower, sometimes 10-15 seconds before it is ready to edit. I have done all of the suggested tips listed in the community and elsewhere. Nothing helped unfortunetly. I run a fairly new home build fast system and confident it is not the bottleneck. After doing all of the mentioned suggestions I could find I concluded I either have a bad Lightroom install or corrupt catolog system files. I have used Lightroom for a long time, maybe even the first version. Over that time I have accumalated about 7 or so different catologs with a total 300k images. I just updated to LR 15.0.1 which was a full update with updated catologs. So I was leaning more towards corrupted catolog files. My concern with any changes was not to loose any edit history. So the first test I did was to export one of my image folders within a current catolog. The options I choose to do this test was check boxs Export negative files and include available prevews. To my surprise this worked and rendering is super fast just like it used to be. But this process took a long time and created duplicate files. My second test was to do this same folder of images but this time only check the box for Export negative files. This worked also, edit history was intact and rendering was as fast as ever but the process still took for ever because of duplicating files. So my finial test was to export same image folder but have none of the option boxes checked. As far as I can tell I am only creating the catologs files them selves and nothing else. I assume this new catolog is just linking to the existing image files in their current location just like they were before. This worked as well and the whole process was super fast and so far everything is working as it should. My question is, am I missing anything or doing something I will regret down the road?
