Smart Collection in Book Module shows wrong photos.

Lightroom Classic version: 12.4 [ 202306052221-b70c0975 ]

License: Creative Cloud

Language setting: en

Operating system: Windows 10 - Business Edition

Version: 10.0.19045

Application architecture: x64

Smart collection (example):

Match all of the following rules:

Folder contains all 2020-07-16 Island

Label Color is blue

Expected result:

Photo count in the collection: 19 (library and Book module).

In the Library module as well in the Book module only the 19 photos are shown.

Actual result in version 12.4:

  1. Library module:

19 photos in camera strip, that's ok

  1. Book module - same smart collection:

19 as photo count, but all photos which match the "Folder" criteria are shown, and it seems that the "Color" criteria is ignored

Also try the [Clear Book] tab, and then [Create a Saved Book].

After this ALWAYS work from the Saved Book Collection, NOT the Smart Collection!

This problem of unwanted photos appearing in the book module was frequent in earlier versions of LrC with various suggestions to fix-

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/book-not-auto-populating-and-using-wrong-collection.38970/

These words were quoted from a staff person- "Until you have created a "Saved Book Collection" the Book module does not 'know' what photos you want for the book so it pulls in all recent photos from books and folders."

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Thanks.  The screenshots confirm my understanding, and they clearly show buggy behavior:

Since I can't reproduce this on my end, that suggests there is something screwy in your LR installation. Try these troubleshooting steps in order:

1. Restart your computer.

2. Delete the Helper.lrdata folder:

a) Do Catalog Settings > General > Show to open Finder / File Explorer on the current catalog folder.

b) Exit LR.

c) In that folder, delete the folder "<catalog> Helper.lrdata".

d) Restart LR, and it will rebuild the folder.

The Helper.lrdata folder caches information about keywords, folders, collections, and other things to speed the performance of LR and it can sometimes get corrupted. In recent versions, LR has used it more heavily to improve the speed of displaying metadata, and there have been a fair number of bugs with it.

3. Try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

Hi,

Please find enclosed screenshots of two examples, CN and IS: definition of the smart collection, photos shown in Library and in Book.

As you may discover, for the CN smart collection (3 photos), in Library only the 3 photos are shown, in Book the same 3 but also photos of the IS folder.

Regards,

Carlo

I'm not able to reproduce that problem on my LR 12.4. Please post full-resolution screenshots (not phone pics) of the entire LR window, when in Library and in Book -- that could give important clues and/or help reproduce the issue.
