SMART Preview Problem

REMOTE Editing question. I photograph preschools. My editing process consists of Culling,Cropping and running a filter in LrC. I have had a lot of trouble getting Catalogs to a remote editor using LrC (SMART PREVIEWS and Exporting as a Catalog). This last season (Sept-Dec) LrC kept telling me there was an error upon reopening the lrcat file on my end once the remote editor closed it on their end. We were utilizing DROPBOX as our online server, so we would close the program and wait for it to sync into DB. But even after waiting for the SYNC to be complete it would still show thumbnails all wonky and there would be errors not allowing the user to open the files.
Has anyone else found this problem with Smart Previews? Were you able to correct it? In doing the research about it last fall we found a thread in the ADOBE community Help forum about it but I can't seem to find it again. Don't know if it was a bug in LrC (seemed like it after what we read). Not sure if it was fixed...
And I am open to other workflows (if you're willing to share yours) that offer the same abaility that Smart Previews offer (the ability to adjust an edit once the lrcat file is reopened on the photographers end).

i in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

You should not post Lightroom Classic questions in there. There is a dedicated Lightroom Classic forum, that is where this thread has been moved to now.

As far a the question is concerned: double check that Dropbox is not set to 'online only'. That is the default nowadays, but Lightroom Classic needs all files to be local.
