I have downloaded and reinstalled my LR4 thinking that this would allow my SONY .ARW files to download to Light Room to no avail.  Also, I am not able to download the LR5 version which I have seen may solve the problem.  Will someone please help tell me how i can edit my .ARW photos are how I can download a version of light room that will allow me to edit?

That camera model requires at least Lightroom 5.4. Lightroom 4 cannot be updated in any way to support that camera. It would be next to impossible for you to find Lightroom 5 available for purchase anywhere. Adobe hasn't sold it for quite some time. It is old, obsolete, and simply isn't available anymore. If you don't want to update from Lightroom 4  then your best choice would be to download the DNG converter and convert your raw files to the DNG format. Those DNG files could then be opened in Lightroom 4. Your other choices would be to purchase Lightroom 6, which has been updated for about the last time but would support your camera. Or, you could subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud photography plan which costs $9.99/month and includes the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop. It is decision time. The software that you have now will not process the raw files from your camera, and cannot be updated in any way to do so.

    Hi emilial,

Please let us know the camera make and model you are using? You can refer the list of the supported camera with Lightroom, refer: Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Also, if your camera required you to upgrade the Lightroom version and you don't wish to upgrade then, you can use the DNG converter to convert your raw images in DNG format.

Refer the download for DNG Converter: Adobe Digital Negative Converter

Hi Mohit,  Thank you for your message.

It seems my SONY A6000 is supported by Lightroom.  What do you mean upgrade?  I have been trying to upgrade from LR4, but it never gives me an option and says that this isn’t he latest version, i.e. why i re-installed.

I do not want to change the format - just work with the .ARW

    Appreciate your advice!
