Question

Sort order nor working

Just in the past few days I've noticed that LR Classic Mac isn't working right when I ask it to change the sort in grid view. I typically sort by Capture Time, but sometimes I want to see edited images so I ask for a sort by File Type or File Extension so Tiff files will be grouped together. This has always worked fine but now I'm seeing some Raw files included in with the Tiffs. I'm running LR Classic 11.3.1 and just updated my Mac OS to 12.4 to see if that would make any difference and it didn't. Any idea why this is happening?

The left arrow should be pointing at the "2" in the stacking badge, not at the flag icon.

Thanks for including the screenshot -- it makes it so much easier to resolve issues!

The .cr2s are at the bottom of expanded stacks:

LR always sorts stacks by the top photo, and the buried photos come immediately after it.

You could do the menu command Photo > Stacking > Collapse All Stacks so you just see the TIFFs on top.

Or you could use the Metadata browser in the Library Filter bar with the File Type column to filter just the TIFFs.

Thanks for the explanation, though it seems to me that I've never run in to the stack issue before. The metadata filter is something I hadn't considered before.

Thanks again.

"it seems to me that I've never run into the stack issue before."

LR sorting has always behaved this way, so maybe you just never had expanded stacks when you were looking at the sort order.
