Question

Sort order of Keyword Sets and Effects messed up.

We have a couple of LR Classic 11 catalogs that live on an external SSD. These are used both on Windows 10 and on Mac M1. The sort order of the keyword sets and effects is messed up. The only workaround we have found is to rename one of the Keyword Sets and Effects. Then sorting is again alphabetically as expected. On relaunch of the catalog, the sort order is wrong again.

What is the permament fix for this?
All help is much appreciated.

No ideas where sorting is stored?

"Sorting" is an automatic function of the Catalog database. You will not find any way to alter the default which should be 'alphabetic'.

One item that changes sort order is a (virtually invisible) leading [Space] that will sort before any alpha character. (likewise ! @ # $ )

Can you post a clip of the window showing the KW Sets list and their order?

Sometimes a reset of the Preferences file (save a copy first) can fix these unusual 'happenings'.  PREFERENCES RESET

Are you referring to the order of the 9 keywords that appear in a 'Set'?

When you choose a Set from the context drop-down menu: the Set names should be alphabetic.

But the 9 Keywords in the set 'layout' will appear as you placed them in the edit of the set.

The Set Layout is designed for use of the numeric keyboard (when available). So the most used keyword in a set might be in the location for Numeric key [1] even if that KW is "Zebra"

Perhaps I mis-understand your question.

Thank for the reply Rob.

I am referring to the names of the keywords sets themselves. The 9 keywords in a set remain correct.

Have you tried using Bridge for keywording?
