Spot Removal Tool very slow causing beach ball spinning in Lr Classic

Since the latest upgrade to 7.1 I've experienced significant slowdown in the spot removal tool. I do one or two spot removals for sensor dust and the beach ball appears. If I'm trying to clone something, it also appears. Sometimes when the spot removal tool completes its task it leaves a distorted color and only partially removes the spot.

I'm using a iMac 5K 27", High Sierra 10.13.2. with 32.00 GB of ram.  The processor is a Metal: AMD Radeon Pro 580 and Lr is using this processor.

This has been very frustrating and at times I've got to go to Luminar 2018 to do cloning and spot removal.

Hopefully someone has some suggestions on resolving this issue.

Note: My knowledge of the computers is at the beginner level so please form your answers with that in consideration.

Thank you.

The problem has nothing to do with High Sierra. The problem is not specifically related to LR Classic CC. The problem is the size of your monitor, and the underlying architecture of Lightroom.

Yes, Adobe is trying to address this issue.

This is a known problem with spot removal, and with large monitors (although we would really need to know the size of your monitor in pixels, and not in inches).

One partial solution is to turn off the GPU acceleration, which will help spot removal, but will probably slow down other operations.

Another partial solution is to do the spot removal as the next to last step in editing, and as the last editing step, turn on lens corrections and transforms.

You could also do the spot removal in Phtooshop, which will be much faster.

Thank you for your suggestions.

My monitor is 5120 x 2880 and uses 8 gb. Not being confident in photoshop, I’ll have to spend sometime learning how to do this. Another thing for my todo list. I realize that this is out of the realm of this community but do you have a training suggestion on learning spot removal in Photoshop. I do have access to Lynda.com through my local library.

Is there any indication that Adobe is addressing the larger monitor issue and the spot removal tool? I did have an Apple support person on the phone today to address an email issue and asked if there was any known spot removal tool problems with High Sierra and Lightroom Classic. He was not aware of any issues.

I’m going to leave this question open for a while to see if others are experiencing this and have some additional suggestions.

Thanks again,
