Standalone Lightroom 6 does not open on a fresh windows install

Good evening,

Recently, I've built a new computer and have kept it relatively clean so far.  On a fresh install of Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, I've installed drivers for video card, motherboard, sound, etc., MSI Afterburner, firefox/chrome, Steam with 1 game and 1 program, and then the standalone version of Adobe Lightroom 6.  After installing and trying to run, I get an error stating that "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has stopped working" immediately - no splash screen, no catalog screen or anything, just straight to the error message.  On this computer, Lightroom has never been opened otherwise.

I've reinstalled a few times (didn't edit registry keys or anything) and still no luck.  Any help resolving this would be appreciated - I've tried a couple of the fixes that worked for other people but they either didn't apply to the standalone version or they didn't work for my issue.

    You always need both!

    Thanks F. McLion, had to google a few other things to get it up and running, but without you pointing out I had to actually download the update on it's own I probably would've taken much, much longer.  If anyone else has this issue, you need SP1 or SP2, or it doesn't look like it'll work at all - a manual windows update for a required missing file will not work without one of the service packs.

    Actually, I may have downloaded an incorrect version - I just assumed the primary installer would be the most updated one.  Sorry, I'll give it a shot.

    I've downloaded the installer 3 separate times.  Unable to open properly after each install.
