Question

Still having memory leaks & issues syncing

For the last month or two Ive been having a memory leak issue with Lightroom Classic with zero help from Adobe or even acknowledgement of the problem. Its not just myself with this issue as I have seen various threads here from others experiencing the same thing with varying results for resolution. Unfortunately Ive still not found a solution for a fix and its just becoming harder and harder to get any kind of bulk work done.

Im a full time photographer with Lightroom being part of my daily workflow, with it grinding to a halt every few hours im bashing my head against a wall for any kind of solution. Even editing on my Ipad which is painful but somehow faster than doing it on my Macbook pro M1 Max, this just shouldnt be the case.

In a previous thread about this issue, someone was saying they had a few photos stuck syncing and once they located and fixed them the memory leak somehow cleared up. Ive got 7 images stuck but cant find a way to locate the ones giving it issues. Even when im pulling up the sync activity in the preferences and looking down the list of potential errors its not giving me anything. Just the ones that are working as normal.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm getting so tired of giving Adobe more and more money each year when they are just insistant on shoehorning in new AI features and not doing anything to help or fix issues for their current userbase. Capture one is looking more appealing every day.

Hello,

A bit late, but...

Regarding your sync issues with Lightroom Classic, I suggest the following.

Open Lightroom Desktop,

On Lightroom Classic sync tab, click on the file that is syncing - this will then locate the file in Lightroom Desktop

Make a small change, e.g exposure, this will make a change to the metadata, and hence it will download the change to Lightroom Classic

The syncing in Lightroom is therefore synced!

I had a problem with syncing from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom Desktop - the metadata from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom Desktop got stuck, it would be uploading for hours, and no changes.

There seems to be a syncing problem in uploading to the Desktop version, but no syncing problems in downloading.

Locating the 'problem files' and fixing the problem in the Lightroom Desktop, the syncing issue was resolved.

If you can't locate the file in Lightroom Desktop, then remove it from the Lightroom Sync tab - Right Click, I think it was to remove the file.

Remember, if you are uploading an image file from Lightroom Classic, only a smart preview will be uploaded to Lightroom Desktop.

Images from Lightroom Desktop can be downloaded to Lightroom Classic.

Makes sense?

Hey, @felix5E79. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. Thanks for sharing the details and going through previous conversations.

If you're certain that some files are stuck in the Sync queue, we can figure that out using the Diagnostic report. In Lightroom Classic Preferences > Lightroom Sync Tab > Press and hold the ALT/OPT Key to generate a Diagnostic report.

You can also check Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/4eF2E7u) and look for the Deleted Section and the Sync issues tab (if they exist). Emptying both of these has helped in the past. Before emptying these tabs, ensure you have backups for the images.

After this, you can let Lightroom Classic sync for a while for the changes to settle down. If this does not help, please share the diagnostic report with me here or via direct message in my profile.

Thanks!
