Suppress history entry on export?

When I export a batch of photos, each and every one has an “Exported <date>” entry added to its history. This adds nothing to the image. Is there a way I can suppress this auto-entry of non-”history”?

    Correct answer Conrad_C

I’m not speaking for everyone, but there were some who wanted to know which images had been exported, and when.

I don't personally have much use for it, but I do know that sometimes I export a copy, but then I keep working on it and later I’m not sure how current that export is. The Export history step tells me how far back that export was from my current edits, and of course, I can see exactly what was done to it since the last export.

And finally, to specifically answer this question…

So, instead of wondering why I’d want to remove it, I’d ask who thought adding it was a good idea?

As is so often the case, it was…other users like you, but who have different needs. It didn’t take long to find a feature request started by a user 6 years ago. The feature request below was upvoted and supported in the comments by other users, and the final comment in that post is from the Adobe employee 2 years ago letting everyone know it had been implemented. From the point of view of those users, it took Adobe 4 years to give them what they wanted.

If I am understanding you properly, no you cannot prevent individual steps from being added to the History Panel. You can go to the step immediately below the Export step and then right-click on that step and select “Clear History Above This Step”. You can also clear ALL history steps if you want.

Why you would want to do this regularly is very unclear to me, what benefit is there?

I think he was talking about the LrC history info, not the file metadata

Yes, forgive me for being unclear; I was not seeing a history entry in the exported file; I am seeing a history entry being added to the develop history list in the develop panel. I know I can clear history above this step, but if I’m exporting a bunch-o-files, then I have to do that for each and every image. And clear all does exactly that: clear all, including clearing the import version of the image.

You ask “Why you would want to do this regularly is very unclear to me, what benefit is there?” Well, let me turn that around: why would I want a notation that at a certain time I happened to export it? What good does that do me but to add unnecessary stuff to my history? If I have a group of photos, say, and want to give copies out at different times to different people, there’s even more unnecessary history. So, instead of wondering why I’d want to remove it, I’d ask who thought adding it was a good idea?
