Lightroom is a good choice in many people's opinion, but there are alternatives. Most all can be demo'd, and we'd assume you have Apple's Photos available too. Best idea is try before you buy.
In addition, the CC Plan has more features, and Lr Mobile has become very good. And if you need to get Photoshop as well then the Plan is a no-brainer. Also, Lr and Ps probably have more educational materials and plugins and support than any photo software. Odds are even your local schools teach Lr or Ps. But again, there are other choices.
BTW, if you do migrate from Aperture, look at the program "Aperture Exporter." I think it's a better choice for migrating out of Aperture, no matter what choice you make. It works from within Aperture essentially to move stuff to folders in structure you have more control of, and has ways to export higher quailty versions of the edited/adjusted images in Aperture.
