Switch from Aperture to Lightroom

I've been using Aperture for many years now even after Apple decided to stop supporting it back in 2014. I think I'm kind of forced to switch to Lightroom sooner or later... Would you recommend buying Lightroom 6 now or wait for the next version or should I just subscribe to Adobe's photography plan? Is there anything the standalone version of Lightroom can't do that Lightroom CC can?

Lightroom is a good choice in many people's opinion, but there are alternatives. Most all can be demo'd, and we'd assume you have Apple's Photos available too. Best idea is try before you buy.

In addition, the CC Plan has more features, and Lr Mobile has become very good. And if you need to get Photoshop as well then the Plan is a no-brainer. Also, Lr and Ps probably have more educational materials and plugins and support than any photo software. Odds are even your local schools teach Lr or Ps. But again, there are other choices.

BTW, if you do migrate from Aperture, look at the program "Aperture Exporter." I think it's a better choice for migrating out of Aperture, no matter what choice you make. It works from within Aperture essentially to move stuff to folders in structure you have more control of, and has ways to export higher quailty versions of the edited/adjusted images in Aperture.

Forced? That's an awful strong word ... there are choices ... you realize that Lightroom has competitors, don't you?

No one knows when the next version will be released, and so its nearly impossible to advise on this matter. Since you clearly have choices, we really can't decide what YOU should do.

Yes, a number of things are Lightroom CC only. That's why Adobe charges more for LR CC. Here are some things that are only available in Lightroom CC (not a complete list): Lightroom Mobile, Photoshop CC, dehaze, guided upright, black and white local adjustments, boundary warp ...
