Question

Sync stopped working

Issues with Adobe used to drive me nuts because I kept asking why is it that a company so successful that employs genius developers (let's face it Adobe has features that requires that genius!) allows so many high profile bugs to be released into production. I am well past that point now (call it fatigue?), because it is what it is.

And here I am writing yet another post about sync feature not working...

Adobe has a number of competitors these days and while many of them a truly amazing, all of them are missing critical and painfully obvious features. So that leaves me with Adobe. One of the features that I should be excited about is Sync. I use(d) sync to view and edit photos on iPad, and it is a great feature…when it works.

A few releases ago (sometime in 2024) Adobe released Lightroom Classic with all the sync setting and troubleshooting buttons gone. I was a bit shocked thinking ‘How will I at least attempt to fix sync when it fails’. But all of a sudden sync started working. Yes some pictures would get stuck for a while but eventually all of them would be synced and no intervention  was required. ‘At last!’. But alas a few months later in the last release those sync settings and troubleshooting buttons were back. And it stopped working yet again. And now I am at a point where none the tricks that worked before are working anymore. I deleted all my pictures from the cloud, I reset the sync form LR, I rebuilt all my collections that I am syncing, but nothing works. Out of 15k pictures set up for syncing, only ~100 are synced and LR says there is nothing more to be synced…repeatedly, no matter what I do! Sync is now worse that ever!

So here I am as a subscribed user asking: What are Adobe’s plans for the Lightroom Classic sync feature? If you want us to hate it so you have an excuse to remove it, then just remove it and the problem (along with a great feature) will be gone. But…sync and cloud technology has been around for quite a while now and I refuse to believe that Adobe is unable to make it work. Just work! The sync feature has been plagued with bugs and issues for years now and release after release (apart from the above mentioned short relief) the issues remained and even made worse. Why?

So, Adobe, help me out here. First and foremost what can I do in the current release of MacOS Lightroom Classic v13.5.1 to reset the sync so it starts working?

And then - this is more of a rhetorical question- I would really really like to know if there is any plan to make syncing actually work and leave it with that…just woking!

Thanks

Those steps on https://www.lightroomqueen.com/troubleshoot-sync-with-classic/ are not helping me. My LR says there are 15k images synced but in the clould there is 0 (I deleted them) and also LR does not report any sync errors. It appears that those few images that get synced are on top of those 15k that LR thinks are synced. Maybe this is where to problem is
