Question

Synced settings not matching after minor photoshop edits

Hi there,

I was recently editing a headshot in Lightroom I had made colour adjustments and exposure adjustmets but wanted to retouch it in photoshop so I made a virtual copy reset the image and selected edit in photoshop. There I did frequency seperation and some minor cosmetic changes but nothing that would change colour or exposure. Now returning to lightroom when I try to sync the colour and exposure adjustments from the file I had made the virtual copy of the exposure and colour do not match. Any ideas why this might be? I checked and both LR and PS are using SRGB.

Check your PS settings for workspace, look at color profile in use. I think not sRGB, but Pro Photo, (to get closer to the LR  Develop color space )

If you are trying to use the new PS created image to alter (sync) to the original RAW image you started with in LRC, nope, not going to happen. Those are not edits in the LRC database (catalog) to reference.

Ah, in LRC, you created the virtual copy, then removed all the edits from it, taking it back down to as imported, then edited that in PS. This to get around the issue in which we cannot choose to edit in PS a copy without LRC  edits if RAW. Ok, that is clarified.

So, let us restate the workflow

    1. Edited original photo in LRC

    2. Created a virtual copy in LRC

    3. Reverted some or all edits to original photo in LRC

(at this point you have 1 photo, but 2 versions of the photo, one being virtual)

    4. You Edited in PS, what the original or the Vurtual copy?

    5. And if RAW, this was a copy with LRC edits.

    6. You made some PS edits, and either Closed or Saved, but did not Save as.

    7. Back in LRC, you now have 3 versions of the photo, the original, a virtual copy, and a new photo via PS edits.

    8. All 3 images are different due to differing edits.

So, a question, what files are you syncing (treatments?)? and how. And what file is most selected?

Mostly correct, I edited the virtual copy that had been reset in photoshop so it should not have had any LRC edits.
After the edits were made in photoshop and I had returned to LRC I did have three photos in LRC and I was trying to sync the .CR2 I had made original colour and exposure adjustments to with the now retouched .PSD

I don't think that is going to work very well because you are trying to match the PSD with a raw file that has been reset. You've got more latitude in the raw file. I think you would be better served by doing as much as you can in the original raw file, and then taking it to Photoshop to do the finishing touches.
